I have been a mother of two boys now for almost 7 years and need something I can do when I get home from work at night while the kids are asleep and the husbands watching sports that interests me….something I can do for ME….any suggestions from you other mothers out there???
Try coin collecting. It doesn’t have to cost you a lot. You can go to the bank and pick of a box of coin (whichever denomination you like) for exactly face value. A box of pennies is $25, a box of nickels is $100, a box of dimes is $250 and boxes of half dollars or quarters are $500. The bank can pull out just $100 for you and you wouldn’t have to buy all $500 if you didn’t want to.
Once you get a box, you can go through and pull out the better coins (there are books to help with this or websites). You can pick up a coin book and try to fill all the holes or just search for interesting ones.
The coins that you don’t want can be returned to the bank and put straight back into your account (though it’s often better to return the coins to a different bank (not just a different branch but a different bank) so that you don’t search the same boxes over and over). So you get most of your money back and you could then get another box.
Also check your change for interesting finds.
Some things to search for: wheat pennies, silver dimes, silver quarters, old coins, error coins, etc. There’s always the chance that you could find a real treasure!

2010 Jul 27 3Something I have fallen in love with is cooking. If you go to Kraft foods.com you can find very easy recipes that are just fun to make! A snack for when the children come home, a colorful dinner for everyone, even a new snack for when you need a pick-me-up.

2010 Jul 27 6Why don’t you try card making. i’ve been doing it for over a year now and every one i have sent people have loved them. it can be quite a cheap hobby if you already have some of the equipment from your scrapbooking. Andyou can also sell the cards that you make to get some more money. that’s what my friend does and she gets loads of buisness

2010 Jul 27 7My mom made gifts like quilts, embroidery, knitting, crocheting. I like to make things with plastic canvas. I have made Barbie furniture for the girls and cars and airplanes and such for the boys. I do wall hangings for the house and I do purses and accesories. You get a pattern and change it to suit your needs. Buy the program for your computer and it will help you make your own designs. And it’s fun to do!

2010 Jul 27 8I am a single 35 year old hetersexual male, but this will work for you too.
Knitting.
It’s fairly simple to learn to do, cheap to start, and you can make things for yourself, then make things for others.
Most of the things I make are for women or girls, so that is why I think it applies to you.
Start with making a scarf for yourself, something that goes with your favorite coat. Make it out of Red Heart acrylic yarn for a few reasons. #1, there are a lot of colors to choose from. #2, it’s easy to wash. #3, it’s inexpensive, so when you make a mistake, and you will, and if it is too much of a mistake to correct and you have to junk it and throw it out, you have learned from your mistake, and it might have cost you $1. But even if you have to junk it, you learned from it, so it was a cheap lesson.
I used Boye’s I Taught Myself Knitting kit. You can pick it up a lot of places, like Hobby Lobby, if you have one, Wal-Mart, which I am sure you have, Jo-Ann Fabrics, etc, etc. It will cost between $10 and $20 depending on where you buy it and if it is on sale. It comes with everything you need except the yarn. And you can pick up Red Heart yarn for about $2 for a skein. Pretty much, you can pick up what you need and start learning tonight for around $20. Sure, you will pick things up as you learn other things, but for a basic kit, to knit your first scarf, you can get it started for about $20.

2010 Jul 27 9how about crochet? It’s easy to learn and I’m sorry to say it is addictive. Ifind myself saying "just one more row ". there are how to books at the library and good source material on line and also they now have dvds with step by step lessons. My fav is making afghans in the ripple pattern with different colours . It is all done in single crochet st and easy to learn. Here is a web site that has free pattern. Making things and giving them as gifts is very rewarding. good luck with whatever you choose to do!
